NFL Power Rankings Week 3

After two early season showdowns one team has emerged better than the rest. Some teams are ranked as high as they are going to be all year, while some are as low as they are going to go.

Mike Shanahan is a cheater...

No.

Team

Last Week

1.

Cowboys 3-0- See they can play defense. Great statement win against one of better teams in the Conference.

1

2.

Giants 2-0- Playing an overtime game against the Bengals is not ideal, but a win is a win. I know he is just a kicker, but John Carney has done a nice job so far.

3

3.

Titans 3-0- They can run it and they are one of the best defenses in the league. They get a test this week hosting the Vikings in what should be an ugly game.

9

4.

Broncos 3-0- They have now cheated twice to win, but they are still undefeated. As much as I think this team is a fluke they have beaten the Chargers and Saints.

10

5.

Eagles 2-1-Big win against the Steelers. Jim Johnson showed everyone why he is the best defensive coach in Football. They better pray the Westbrook isn’t out for a long period of time.

5

6.

Bills 3-0- The surprise team so far in 2008. They are undefeated, but they did struggle to beat the Raiders and rank 30th in total offense.

11

7.

Steelers 2-1- Big game Monday night against the Ravens and without Willie Parke they have to make sure they protect Ben or he might not make it out alive.

2

8.

Packers 2-1- All eyes in Green Bay not rest on Al Harris. If he is out for the season he will be a huge loss for the defense. I am curious to see how Aaron Rodgers responds to his first loss against a tough Tampa team.

4

9.

Panthers 2-1- They got to see what a real defense can do to a running game as the Vikings held them to just 47 yards on the ground. They will get healthy against the Falcons and Chiefs in the upcoming weeks.

8

10.

Buccaneers 2-1- Brian Griese threw the ball how many times? I know they won the game but that is not going to work all season.

15

11.

Chargers 1-2- They cannot play defense but they sure can score the ball. They could be 3-0 and Phillip Rivers is becoming an elite QB.

12

12.

Patriots 2-1- After a great coaching job against the Jets, Belichick got embarrassed by Tony Sparano.

5

13.

Colts 1-2- Bob Sanders is the key to the defense and that really showed as the Jags had two backs go for over 100. The week 4 bye came at exactly the right time for Peyton’s crew…they will be back at the top.

6

14.

Redskins 2-1- After a stinker in week 1, Jason Campbell looks like he is grasping Jim Zorn’s offense. Maybe I was wrong about this team?

18

15.

Cardinals 2-1- Tough loss to the Skins because they had a chance to win the game. They stayed in Washington for their second consecutive east coast game against the Jets in week 4.

14

16.

Jaguars 1-2- They saved their season going to Indy and winning. If they get that kind of effort from Jones-Drew and Taylor they will be the team everyone thought they would be.

20

17.

Vikings 1-2- Like the Jags, this is another team that saved their season against a tough team. Gus Frerotte played decent in his first game as starter. All he has to keep thinking is “Be Trent Dilfer circa 2000."

19

18.

Saints 1-2- First Colston now Shockey. Will Brees and Bush be enough to hold the fort down until everyone gets healthy?

13

19.

49ers 2-1- Mike Martz has this offense playing really well and they just embarrassed the Lions. Looking at their next 4 games however (@ Saints, Patriots, Eagles, @ Giants), it is hard to believe they will keep it up.

22

20.

Ravens 2-0- They have not lost yet and have two divisional wins, but that all changes this week going into Pittsburgh. They get to follow that game up with the Titans and Colts…I see 2-3 in their future.

23

21.

Falcons 2-1- I know they have 2 wins, but beating the Lions and Chiefs does not impress me. They will be lucky to win another game before November.

27

22.

Jets 1-2- I know they got beat pretty good by the Chargers, but being 1-2 at this point was what I expected. The game against the Cardinals this week is going to show how good or bad they really are.

16

23.

Bears 1-2-After beating the Colts they have dropped two very tough games against the Panthers and Bucs. It does not get easier this week as they host the Eagles. Look for Orton to make some mistakes.

17

24.

Dolphins 1-2- Great job by Tony Sparano and the Dolphins against the Pats. Ronnie Brown is back and will be the starter the rest of the season.

29

25.

Seahwaks 1-2- Does anyone need a bye more than this team? Julius Jones is starting to play well but they need to get Branch and Engram back soon.

25

26.

Raiders 1-2- They came o so close to beating the Bills and going to 2-1. Instead Lane Kiffin has to answer questions about his own job status. He will not be the coach by the time they go to New Orleans in week 6.

26

27.

Texans 0-2- Matt Schaub has just 1 TD and 5 INTs, but he has played two of the toughest defensives in the league. Things don’t get easier this week as they had to Jacksonville.

24

28.

Browns 0-3- After losing to Dallas and the Steelers, they were supposed to beat the Ravens. Instead Derek Anderson layed a stinker throwing for 125 yards and 3 picks. If they do not beat the Bengals, we will see Brady Quinn in week 6.

21

29.

Bengals 0-3- They played better in week 3 as Palmer finally got the ball to Houz. I still don’t think they can win with Marvin Lewis at the helm.

30

30.

Lions 0-3- They have lost to the Falcons AND the niners this year. Not even Matt Millen could survive that garbage.

28

31.

Chiefs 0-3- I hate Herman Edwards.

31

32.

Rams 0-3- They have been blown out every game they have played this season. They have given up almost 1400 yards in 3 weeks.

Last time the Pats were out of the top 10 of Power Rankings in the last half of a decade. Probably never. I love it. So much Parody in the league, but it is only week 3. We will see the true cream rise to the top. Side note -- Davis needs to roll over and croak already. He screwed up letting Gruden go and he's going to screw up letting Kiffin go, a coach that he has given a handful of young players to mold and hes going to screw up the team, and their careers due to his old selffishness that clearly doesn't work. Get rid of Bob Ryan instead of Kiffin. Lane is only the son of one of the most intelligent defensive minds in history of the NFL.
