The first of 38 Power Rankings...I hope.
1. Chelsea- 3 Points
Last Week: -
Yeah, they were that good at home against Portsmouth. Four-Nil is a drubbing, especially against a team that won the FA Cup last season, and pushed United to penalties a week previous.
2. Aston Villa- 3 Points
Last Week: -
Convincing victory over City. It was a game they needed in order to prove that they are in the top 7 clubs in the league. Gareth Barry played in the UEFA Cup match last week too, that means he'll be there all season.
3. Blackburn Rovers- 3 Points
Last Week: -
I have to give credit where credit is due. I knocked Paul Ince around last week, and this team played hard for 90 minutes to get the win. I don't know if it will last, but they definitely performed better than I thought they would.
4. Arsenal- 3 Points
Last Week: -
Samir Nasri scored in the first 5 minutes, than the Gunners eased off the pedal. Good performance against a sub-par West Brom.
5. Liverpool- 3 Points
Last Week: -
I'm not sure if they deserved 3 points, but Torres's goal was beautiful.
6. West Ham- 3 Points
Last Week: -
Dominated Wigan from end to end. They are better than I thought, but their age will catch up to them. Kudos to Dean Ashton for becoming the striker West Ham always thought he was.
7. Newcastle United- 1 Point
Last Week: -
Good job magpies. Holding United to one goal at Old Trafford is an impressive feat. Let's hope King Kev's boys can keep it up. Rumor has it they're about to sign Michael Owen to a massive deal.
8. Manchester United- 1 Point
Last Week: -
They didn't win, but they still belong at the 2 spot in reality. Newcastle legitimately held them last week, and there has to be some goal scoring concerns for Sir Alex.
9. Hull City- 3 Points
Last Week: -
This is the highest they'll be all season. Good job capitalizing on the home crowd and good feelings from last season.
10. Bolton- 3 Points
Last Week: -
Gross team, they scored 3 goals against an even grosser team. Highest they'll be all season.
11. Middlesbrough- 3 Points
Last Week: -
I'm shocked. No chance I had them taking 3 points against Spurs. Don't expect more of the same this week at Anfield.
12. Tottenham Hotspur- 0 Points
Last Week: -
Not the way they thought they were going to start the season, surely. Riverside isn't the easiest place in the world to play, nor the toughest. I'd expect them to bounce back this week.
13. Sunderland- 0 Points
Last Week: -
Nice showing at the Stadium of Light. Pushed Liverpool to the absolute limit before Torres broke the tie. This team will be tough to beat at home.
14. Manchester City- 0 Points
Last Week: -
Bad start to the season just got worse. City announced today they are taking a 30 million pound loan against their tv revenue to help cover expenses. That doesn't sound good to me.
15. Everton- 0 Points
Last Week: -
Can't drop points at home to rivals. Blackburn and Everton are both playing for UEFA Cup spots, it's unacceptable to drop full points at home like that. Very disappointed in David Moyes.
16. Portsmouth- 0 Points
Last Week: -
It's not their fault they had to go to Stamford Bridge. Four goals is awfully pourous though.
17. Wigan Athletic- 0 Points
Last Week: -
The Latics were ho-hum against West Ham. Nothing really stood out, and it seemed they were the lesser team for most of the match. They play host to Chelsea this weekend.
18. West Bromwich Albion- 0 Points
Last Week: -
To lose 1-0 at the Emirates is a moral victory. Still, Arsenal eased off pretty early in this match, and were still able to hold back West Brom.
19. Stoke City- 0 Points
Last Week: -
Atrotious. Their manager is officially on the hot seat. You have to pull a draw minnimum against Bolton if you want to be taken seriously for staying out of relegation. 3-1 is unacceptable.
20. Fulham- 0 Points
Last Week: -
The original plan was to give Hull the infamous, "..." Unfortunately for me, they actually won a game. AGAINST FULHAM! What a joke of a football club. Losing to a team that has never been the Premiership. You should be ashamed Fulham.
