G vs Sami Vol 6

There is an epidemic sweeping the country and I hate it. This craze is bigger than reality television, Britney Spears and Google all rolled into one. It kind of hurts me to say I hate it, because I hate the obsession and not the actual product. Ok enough of my poor attempt to build up suspense. The epidemic I am speaking about is the National Football League; not the game of Football, but everything the NFL has become.

Most people are going to disagree with me and someone will probably write a Boo of the Week about me, but I really don't care. I am sick of the hype and media attention the NFL receives and what it has become. I understand the necessary evil of marketing in sports and what it does for the game and I am not here to say that the NFL is unique in that aspect. However things have gone too far.

I am tired of how early people try and start the NFL season. I have been hearing about Football now for about a month and it is ridiculous. In case you so called sports fans haven't noticed, we are witnessing one of the best Baseball seasons in recent history and the dog days of August are about to play a huge role in 5 out of 6 pennant races. Instead I have people asking me to rank my top 10 Fantasy Football Running Backs or what I think Logan Mankins agility will be in Madden. Guess what people...

I DONT CARE! COME BACK TO ME IN 2 WEEKS AND WE CAN START TO TALK FOOTBALL!

It has become so bad that the NFL Network actually is able to air a whole week of coverage on the release of the schedule! Think about that people. Many of you reading this article spent at least 3 hours of your life listening to Terrell Davis and Rod Woodson fight over the week 14 match up between the Cardinals and Rams. ESPN waits only one week after the Pro Bowl to start breaking down every team in the league and what they need to draft...IN APRIL!

In no way am I saying I hate Football. There are few better things than wasting a Sunday away on a cold Fall day watching the NFL for 10 hours. I just don't want to hear about it in July, the same way I don't want to hear about Baseball in January. There is something wrong when NBC is showing Colt Breenan battle it out with Quinn Gray and Jared Lorenzen on prime time on a Sunday night on AUGUST 3RD!

The NFL has become the most popular sport in the country, and as much as I wish it was still Baseball, I can live with that. All I ask from educated sports fans is not to rush the start of the season. Start getting into Football in mid August and the season will be more enjoyable. Maybe the NFL will even cut a preseason game or two if the fans stopped caring about this nonsense.

It is not acceptable to watch think about the NFL 12 months out of the year. Get into Baseball and let the beginning of the NFL season play itself out naturally or the unique things that make the NFL great are going to get old and ruin its true beauty.
