G Vs Sami Vol. 6

When is it okay to start caring about football? The NFL Draft is the first marker, I think after that point everybody starts to really miss it. There's that initial two month hangover from the ups and downs of the regular season, than the draft hits and you start to hurt. By June, I think everybody is just aching for some football. That's where this recent rush of crazed football fans is coming from. The NFL isn't cramming it down our throats, we're asking for it. And you know what? I'm desperate for more. I love it. I wake up, and the first thing I think about is getting to a computer to check the Giants' morning practice. It's not that I don't care about the greatest baseball season to ever happen in my life, or the fact Chelsea is kicking off in less than two weeks. I still care about that stuff. But football is an insatiable drug. It is the only socially acceptable reason to waste 14 hour clips of your life. When else is it okay to tell somebody you just sat in front of the television for a full day?

Fantasy football is another reason that the drug has taken over. People across the country will start drafting in the next couple of weeks, and everywhere you go you will hear a debate over fantasy football. LDT or Purple Jesus? How high is Eli Manning going? Is Frank Gore finally going to be good? People have spent the last month or so pouring over these questions, and it's bringing everyone to a fever pitch, and I love it. The NFL is brilliant, they give us 20 little tastes once every week. and leave us begging for more. By the time the first kickoff comes around, people will be rabid and foaming at the mouths (Thursday, September 4, 2008; 7:00 PM. Redskins @ Giants, live at the home of Champions).

How about some of the great storylines going into this season. How good will the Patriots be? How will Peyton Manning come out this season? Will the Chargers ever make it over the hump? Then there's the great story about the kid from Cal starting at quarterback over in Wisconsin. It's not our fault that G's beloved J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS JETS are a second rate franchise. I get it, if Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemons were battling to be the face of my franchise, I'd be concerned too. Wait until the last week of August? I'm already worried about how soon the season is going to end!

I wouldn't be happy about this either

Just because football is back in town, doesn't mean the other sports have to die out. There's room for everybody, we should be embracing the fact that there is so much going on in the sports world, not fearing it. I think that's the problem with G, I think he fears the weekly stress of football, and I respect it. It's just a little sad is all.
