Everybody knows who has the record for most home runs all-time. Same goes for who is the all time stolen base king, and who is the hit king. Wondering who has the most goals in a season? What team has allowed the least amount of goals in a season? This article is about the Greatest of All Time...the G.O.A.T.
Most Goals in a Season- Individual
This honor belongs to Dixie Dean from the 1927-28 season. Dean net 60 goals for Everton that year, and that record hasn't been close to touched. His real name was William Randolph Dean, and he has a statue outside of Goodison Park. Other than that i don't have too much to say about a guy who played 80 years ago, and one whom there is no video footage for. I'm sure you were good though Dixie, 60 goals is incredible.
Most Goals In a Season- Team
The 1930 Aston Villa team logged in 128 goals as a team. That's better than 3 goals per game. No team has come close to that record really. In the history of the Premiership, (the Old First Division was reformed as the Premier League in 1992-93) Manchester United hold the record for most goals in a season, scoring 97 goals in 99-2000.
Fewest Goals Conceded in a Season
This lovely honor belongs to Chelsea FC. In 2004-05 Chelsea allowed only 15 goals all season. That's less than half a goal a game. This was also the season Chelsea won their first League Title since 1954-55. Legendary team, and a club that hasn't been the same since.
Greatest Team Ever
There's a little dispute over this title. If you go by the two-point per win formula, which they used to do, it would be Liverpool in 1978-79. That team finished with 68 points on the season. In 2004-05 Chelsea finished with 95 points on the three-point scale. It's a tough call because that Liverpool team was good enough to win the European Cup (Champions League) as well, while Chelsea lost in the semifinals of the European Cup in 2005. I could write a full article about this subject, but I'd probably come off as biased.
The W.O.A.T.
The Worst Team of All Time. This just happened last season. Derby County came to the Premier League in 2007-08, and went back to the Championship with 11 Points. They were able to win one match, draw 8, and lose 29. They also own the record for fewest goals scored in a season, with 20. Worst...Team...Ever...
Most FA Cups
Manchester United own the record for most FA Cup wins with 11 Cups. This includes 5 in the last 20 years. What's really impressive about this is that they also own the record for most losses in an FA Cup Final, with 7. So over about 130 years of FA Cup History, United have played a role in the final 18 times. Yeah, they're kinda good.
Most League Cups
The League Cup is the Carling Cup for those of you who are confused. Carling is just the name of the company sponsoring hte competition, it's changed every few years. Liverpool owns this record, with 7 League Cup victories. Not as exciting as 11 FA Cups, but 7 Cups is still nice.
Most Premier League Winner's Medals
When a team wins the Premier League, they are given a nice shiny medal, just like Michael Phelps, but for a real sport. Ryan Giggs owns 10 Winner's Medals. The guy is like the Bill Russell of football.
Most League Titles
Liverpool. They've won the league 18 times. They used to dominate this sport, thank God those days are over. This year, United goes into the season trailing that record by one title. United now have 17, and a lot of people think Ferguson is just sticking around to break that Liverpool record, and then he'll walk off into the sunset as the greatest manager who ever lived. Either way, nobody can be happy about Liverpool and United being on top of this list.
That's it guys, I hope you enjoyed the quick history lesson. Again, any questions or comments, leave them at the bottom and I'll answer them on Friday. I also want to add a note to change the schedule. I'm dumping the article titled "FA Cup, European Cup, and Every Cup in Between" on Friday. Not sure what I really want to say with that one, and I'm moving the climax of this whole thing, "Is The Premier League the Greatest League in the World?" to Friday. Sorry for any inconvenience.

"just like Michael Phelps, but for a real sport."
Any sport where the US can dominate the rest of the world like Phelps is in swimming is a real sport in my mind.
Yeah, agreed, swimming is a real sport. If you wanna call any sport where the outcome is based on judges (college football, ice skating, your favorite: gymnastics) not a sport, I agree. But swimming is a race. It's the epitome of sport. Not saying I care about it enough to watch it (besides Phelps), but I think it deserves some kind of credit.
i LOVE that you listed college football as not a sport, but dont be ridiculous.
Swimming and all Racing in general are not sports. They may be VERY hard and I know I would not be able to participate in any kind of race, but do not call them sports.
They are competitions that are done by Corner Backs, Point Guards and Center Fielders that have no skills.
My point is this, the guy competes once every four years, and i have to see his face every two seconds. And yes you know my feelings on college football being equal to figure skating, diving, and gymnastics. Phelps could win 30 gold medals, but i would be more impressed with the basketball team's one gold. (i recognize that there are other swim meets, but it's just like a tree in the forest, if it happens and nobody sees it, did it really happen?)
